Anchor: a person or thing that provides stability or confidence in an otherwise uncertain situation:
When we go through tough times, we need something or someone to keep us anchored; a person or thing that will keep our minds stable, to keep us from loosing hope and giving up in the middle. Something that helps us hold firmly to our position of faith in God.
This person would be our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In tough times, if we look to Him, He will provide us the stability and the confidence we need. He will provide stability and confidence in uncertain situations, through the personal relationship and communion we experience in Him, through the person of the Holy Spirit, and the truth of the God’s word.
In tough times, sometimes, there is no one to turn to but God, no place to go but to God. We do not always understand what is going on or why things are happening but one thing we do Know is that God is right there with us and He will hear us when we pray, for His ears are open to the cry of the righteous. And He promised to ” never leave us or forsake us.” Hebrews 13:5,
I John 5:14,15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him
Psalms 34:15,17
15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
Philippians 4:6 says,
6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Ps 46:1,11
1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. (Selah) Pause and think about this.
Anchor: secure firmly in position
“the tail is used as a hook with which the fish anchors itself to coral
If we grab ahold of Christ and not let go, He will secure us firmly in position as we go through. And he will never relax His hold on us. Nothing can pluck us out of His hand (John 10:28) nor separate us from His love. (Romans 8:39)
Christ is also the light in darkness.
Troubling times can be times of great darkness, as well, where It may seem that God has left us or we are not aware of His presence, and we can’t see our way. But if we look to Jesus, He will show us the way through. Sometimes, we need to go through the dark times, so that we may see more of who God really is and what He is capable of doing on our behalf. It increases our faith in Him and our confidence in Him and not ourselves. We see our insufficiency and His all sufficiency to do what we need. Our eyes are opened to a new and true reality of His abilities, His truth and His love for us.
We don’t have to fear in dark times, because He is there with us. The storms of life can be so dark at times, but once again Christ is there to help us navigate the darkness. We must listen for His voice, His guidance and direction through the Holy Spirit and seek understanding, in the revelation of God’s word.
Ps 27:1 says,
” 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him
